NOTICE TO CONTRACTORS

FOR CONSTRUCTION OF

KORBEL SUMMER CROSSING (20C-358)
ON
ODD FELLOWS PARK ROAD

Sealed bids will be received at the office of the Clerk of the Board of Supervisors, Room 100A, 575 Administration Drive, Santa Rosa, California 95403 on August 30, 2006, until the hour of  2:00 p.m. (according to the wall clock in the reception area of the office of the Clerk of the Board of Supervisors).  They then will be transferred to a predetermined meeting room designated by the Sonoma County Department of Transportation and Public Works where they will be publicly opened and read aloud by the Sonoma County Director of Transportation and Public Works or his designee.  Said bids will be referred to the Director of Transportation and Public Works for consideration.

General Work Description:  The work to be done consists, in general, of construction of a pile foundation for Korbel Summer Crossing over the Russian River consisting of seven pairs of 24-inch diameter steel pipe piles.

The contractor shall possess a Class A license with a Hazardous Substance Removal Certification.

Bids are required for the entire work described herein.  This contract is subject to state contract nondiscrimination and compliance requirements pursuant to Government Code §12990.

Plans, specifications, and proposal forms for bidding this project can only be obtained at the Sonoma County Department of Transportation and Public Works, 2300 County Center Drive, Suite B100, Santa Rosa, California 95403, upon payment of a nonrefundable printing service charge in the following amounts:

*Note:   The original Notice was sent out with the prices below for Plans and Specs.  Instead, the Plans are 1/2-size only, and are included in the Specs Book.  There is a flat fee of $20.00 for all. 

     Half-size plan set (includes specifications and proposal forms)  =      $20.00  (including sales tax)
     Full-size plans only                                                                      =   $20.00  (including sales tax)
     Full-size plan set (includes full-size plans & half-size plan set)  =   $40.00  (including sales tax) 

Checks shall be made payable to the County of Sonoma, and shall be mailed or delivered in person to the Department of Transportation and Public Works.

The successful bidder shall furnish both a payment bond and a performance bond for the full amount of the contract.

The County of Sonoma hereby notifies all bidders that it will affirmatively ensure that in any contract entered into pursuant to this advertisement, disadvantaged business enterprises will be afforded full opportunity to submit bids in response to this invitation and will not be discriminated against on the grounds of race, color, sex, national origin or other prohibited basis in consideration for an award.

Liquidated damages in the amount of One Thousand Dollars ($1,000) will be assessed for each and every calendar day's delay in finishing the work in excess of the number of working days prescribed in the contract. Liquidated damages in the amount of Five Hundred Dollars ($500) will be assessed for each and every calendar day's delay in finishing the work in excess of the number of working days prescribed in the contract.

Pursuant to Section 1770 and following of the Labor Code, the general prevailing rate of wages has been determined by the Director of the California Department of Industrial Relations.  Bidders should contact the Department of Industrial Relations at (415) 703-4774 for General Prevailing Wage Rates on specific job classifications.  Future effective wage rates which have been predetermined are on file with the California Department of Industrial Relations and are referenced but not printed in the General Prevailing Wage Rates.  Bidders are advised that if they intend to use a craft or classification not on file on the general wage determinations, they may be required to pay the wage rate of that craft or classification most closely related to it as shown in the general determinations.

The Board of Supervisors of the Sonoma County reserves the right to reject any or all bids and to waive any defect or irregularity in bidding.
