Low Cost Spay/Neuters at Local Vet ClinicsIf you are a qualifying 1) low-income resident, 2) feral cat caretaker of Sonoma County, or 3) feral cat focused non-profit organization, you may receive a dog or cat spay/neuter voucher. With this voucher, your cost to have your dog spayed or neutered is $20 and the cost for a cat spay or neuter is $10 at participating vet clinics. Sonoma County pays the rest. To qualify for a low-income voucher, you must provide proof of residency in Sonoma County and receive one of the following types of government assistance: AFDC; Food stamps; CCS; CalWorks; CHDP Medi-Cal; SSI; WIC; or Section 8. There are other forms of assistance, check the latest flyer: English (PDF:161kB) Español (PDF: 168kB) or have a household net income of $38,500 or less per year. To qualify for a voucher, please bring proof of government assistance, a valid photo I.D. and proof of residency to the Sonoma County Animal Shelter. A limited number of vouchers become available on the first Wednesday of each month. When the maximum number of vouchers have been issued for the month, no additional vouchers will be available until the first Wednesday of the following month. To qualify for a feral cat caretaker voucher, you must be a caretaker for a cat colony located in Sonoma County, and the cat must be feral and not domestic. A limited number of vouchers become available on the first Wednesday of each month. When the maximum number of vouchers have been issued for the month, no additional vouchers will be available until the first Wednesday of the following month. To qualify for a non-profit voucher, you must provide a copy of your IRS 501(c)3 letter, the cat must be feral and not domestic, and the non-profit must agree not to adopt out the animal for profit. A limited number of vouchers become available on the first Wednesday of each month. When the maximum number of vouchers have been issued for the month, no additional vouchers will be available until the first Wednesday of the following month. Low Cost Pit FixThe City of Santa Rosa and unincorporated Sonoma County require that all pit bulls 4-months of age and older are spayed or neutered. Animal Care and Control is offering a limited number of appointments each week with a charge of $60, $70 or $90 depending on the weight of the animal. To schedule a spay/neuter surgery for your pet, call (707) 565-7100. Free Mom Cat SpaysThis program is for cats who currently have a litter. When a pet owner relinquishes a litter of kittens to our shelter we offer free spay services for the mom of the litter. To receive the free spay for the mom cat you must turn in the litter for adoption when the kittens are two months or older. Call (707) 565-7100 for an appointment. MAC - Mobile Animal CenterThe Sonoma County Mobile Animal Center is utilized by local agencies, such as Pets Lifeline and Petaluma Animal Services, who host free or low-cost spay/neuter events.
