Affordable Cat Spay/Neuter Surgeries:The Sonoma County Animal Shelter is offering a limited number of s/n surgeries for owned cats. The fee is only $25.00 for male cats (neuter) and $40.00 for female cats (spay). Additionally, vaccines (FVRCP and Rabies) are offered at $11.00 each, and combo feline aids and leukemia (FIV/FELV) test are available at $21.00. Please call 565-7100 to make an appointment. FYI – these appointments fill up fast, so we are booking appointments for approximately two months from now. Low Cost Spay/Neuters at Local Vet Clinics:If you are a qualifying, low-income resident, feral cat caretaker of Sonoma County, or feral cat focused non-profit organization, you may receive a dog or cat spay/neuter voucher. With this voucher, your cost to have your dog spayed or neutered is only $20 and the cost for a cat spay or neuter is only $10 at participating vet clinics. Sonoma County pays the rest In order to receive a low-income voucher, you must provide proof of residency in Sonoma County and receive one of the following types of government assistance: AFDC; Food stamps; CCS; CalWorks; CHDP Medi-Cal; SSI; WIC; or Section 8 (there are other qualifying assistance, check the latest flyer) or have a household net income of $38,500 or less per year. To receive a voucher, please bring proof of government assistance, a valid photo I.D. and proof of residency to the Sonoma County Animal Shelter. In order to qualify to receive a feral cat caretaker voucher, you must be a caretaker for a cat colony located in Sonoma County, and the cat must be feral and not domestic. In order to qualify for a non-profit voucher, you must provide a copy of your IRS 501(c)3 letter, the cat must be feral and not domestic, and the non-profit must agree not to adopt out the animal for profit. Please leave your pet at home when you visit our agency. You will be issued a voucher and list of participating veterinarians where you can make an appointment. (See Hours and location) There are a limited number of vouchers available monthly. Vouchers become available on the first business day of each month (Tuesday – Saturday). When the maximum number of vouchers have been issued for the month, no additional vouchers will be made available until the first business day of the next month Free Pit Fix:The City of Santa Rosa and unincorporated Sonoma County requires that all pit bulls 4-months of age or older are spayed or neutered. Animal Care & Control offers a limited number of free 'pit fixes' each week to residents of these areas. To schedule a free spay/neuter surgery for your pet, call 579-SPAY. Free Mom Cat Spays:This program is for cats who currently have a litter. When a pet owner relinquishes a litter of kittens to our shelter we offer free spay services for the mom of the litter. To receive the free spay for the mom cat you must turn in the litter for adoption when two months or older because two months is the youngest age for adoptions. Call 565-7100 for an appointment. MAC - Mobile Animal Center:The Sonoma County Mobile Animal Center is utilized by local nonprofit agencies, such as Forgotten Felines and Pets Lifeline, who host free or low-cost spay/neuter events in various locations.
