JDSU, Technology Firm, 800 employees
JDSU has many wellness options for their employees, including:
- To promote healthy eating, JDSU management staff met with its cafeteria
vendor, Perry's Delicatessen, and with its food machine vendor, Canteen,
to provide the employees with healthy food choices.
- JDSU encourages people to exercise 30 minutes a day.
- In 2006, they promoted an 8-week “Fit-4-Change” program
in which teams were formed teams of four people in Santa Rosa, Indianapolis
and San Jose/Milpitas (JDSU headquarters). The contest was promoted
heavily via their intra-net and with posters. Participants logged their
exercise/aerobic activity daily. They would get credit for up to one
hour per day. Every day that a person exercised they received entry
into a drawing. Many raffle prizes were distributed in all four locations.
Three teams of four received credit for exercising the maximum amount
every day. This year JDSU intends to expand the Fit-4-Change program
to more of its locations nationwide.
- To reduce stress, JDSU provides employees with the opportunity for
chair massage (at a reasonable cost), every week, in the health center
- The company promotes the City of Santa Rosa’s Free Ride program.
It currently has 37 people logging their bicycle, bus, carpool and walking
commutes to and from work. For 8 round trips per month, the city provides
a free movie pass. In April 2007, 14 bicycle riders commuted 2063 miles,
8 carpoolers drove 655 miles and 3 walkers commuted 148 miles on foot.
- Also available are free flu shots, free annual screening for skin
cancer, weight watchers at work, and a small well-equipped gym with
access to showers
