Course Description
Since first reported as "swine flu" in April of 2009, Pandemic (H1N1) 2009 has received a lot of media attention. For some people, it has caused a great deal of concern; while others think it has all been media hype. What's the real story? How is Public Health responding? During this presentation, you will learn why this virus was called Swine Flu, how it spreads, who is at risk, and what can and is being done to prevent and treat this emerging infectious disease.

Learning Objectives
Participants will be able to:
- Understand how Pandemic (H1N1) 2009 influenza differs from seasonal influenza.
- Become acquainted with the California Department of Public Health recommendations of when to order lab tests for (H1N1) 2009 influenza.
- Understand personal and environmental interventions to reduce the spread of the (H1N1) 2009 influenza.
- Understand what vaccines are expected and the planning process for administering them.
