Basics Of Decontamination

Target Audience

Hospital staff, hospital safety staff, first responders, fire, police, Red Cross, MRC volunteers, emergency services staff.

Course Description

This course will expose participants to the basics of Hazmat decontamination. Participants will learn about Hazmat procedures, including an overview from the Department of Transportation Hazardous Material classes and basic Hazmat terms. Participants will learn the basics of control, containment and/or confinement operations, and mass decontamination.

Participants will be able to:

Describe how decontamination procedures will affect patients transported for hospital care.
Explain three different types of decontamination procedures and their applications.
Describe three reasons to apply decontamination procedures to patients and victims.
List three types of safety elements used to protect workers during decontamination events.
