Mental Health Interventions for Line Control and Mass Dispensing Site Management

Department of Health Services staff, disaster service workers, mental health staff, Medical Reserve Corps volunteers.

Course Description
This interactive workshop will provide disaster service workers, Medical Reserve Corps volunteers and other health care professionals with three interventions, using magic, to enable these professionals to reduce anxiety, fear, relieve stress and provide a level of distraction to children, adults and at-risk groups waiting in long lines at dispensing site lines, shelter locations and other emergency sites. The trainer (a professional magician) will teach participants three magic tricks using ordinary first-aid supplies.
Learning Objectives
Participants will be able to:
- Describe 3 benefits of applying mental health interventions ,such as magic to reduce anxiety and fear at a disaster site.
- Learn to apply 3 magic tricks using ordinary first-aid kit supplies to children, adults and at-risk groups to relieve anxiety and fear during a disaster.
- Teach 3 mental health intervention, using magic to other disaster service workers.
