Course Description
The focus of this course is to familiarize participants with the basic concepts of Public Health. This course will explore how Public Health prevents epidemics and the spread of disease, protects against environmental hazards and injuries, promotes and encourages healthy behaviors, responds to disasters and assists communities in recovery, and assures the quality and accessibility of health services.
Participants will learn how Public Health uses disease prevention technologies to protect and promote public health through assessing and monitoring the health of communities and populations, and identifying health problems and priorities. They will also learn about the "Ten Essential Public Health Services."

Participants will be able to:
- List five essential Public Health services.
- Describe the basic responsibilities of a public health organization.
- Explain how Public Health uses disease prevention technologies to protect and promote public health.
- Describe the public health role in emergency response in a range of possible emergencies.
