Preapplication

Question What is a Preapplication Meeting?
Answer

A Preapplication Meeting provides you an opportunity, early in the planning stage for development, to meet with representatives from the various agencies that will be involved in your project . Information will be provided to you regarding what documents, clearances, permits and fees will be required for your project. We will discuss the time frame expected to process your permit(s). You will be sent a written record of the Preapplication Meeting to help guide you through the process.

Question Why should I have a Preapplication Meeting?
Answer

The benefits of having a Preapplication Meeting include:

1) You will be told what to expect during the development process.

2) You will know if your proposed project can be approved as you currently envision it, or if changes to the proposal are needed. This includes a review to determine if your project meets General Plan and Zoning requirements.

3) Prior to substantial financial investments such as the development of construction drawings or purchase of real estate you will be informed of all development fees anticipated to complete the project.

4) You will meet a contact person for all the clearances and permits needed to complete the permitting process and construction of your project.

5) You can have all your questions addressed during one meeting with all agencies present.

These meetings are designed to minimize confusion about the permit process.

Question Who will attend the Preapplication Meeting?
Answer

PRMD's Preapplication Project Coordinator will schedule the meeting with you and representatives from all identified county, state and federal agencies that would typically be involved in a project similar to yours. Representatives from agencies other than PRMD may send a written response which will be reviewed at the meeting.

Question How soon will my Preapplication Meeting be scheduled?
Answer

Preapplication Meetings are held on Wednesday afternoons. All required documents must be submitted at least 2 weeks prior to the meeting. Occasionally it wil take longer than two weeks to schedule your meeting due to the number of requests received. During this time PRMD staff and other outside agencies can review, research and respond to the specifics of your project. Since all parties will have reviewed the documents you provided your meeting will be more productive.

Although every effort is made to provide complete and accurate information on this website, users are advised to contact appropriate PRMD staff before making project decisions. This may involve contacting more than one section within PRMD (e.g. Building, Plan Check, Zoning, Well & Septic, etc.), since each section implements specific codes or ordinances which may affect your project.
