The three mile long Bluff Top Access Trail is a great place for whale watching in the winter. The park is located adjacent to the Gualala River, which offers limited seasonal fishing. The Visitor Center is staffed by volunteers and has outstanding displays of the local environment, information regarding Native Americans, and a large exhibit of the turn of the century logging industry.

The campground has a restroom with flush toilets, electrical outlets and coin operated showers. There is also a dump station. The campground consists of 19 RV/Tent sites and 6 walk-in tent sites. At the west end of the campground there is a hiking trail that leads under the freeway and out to the beach. The campground is shaded by a mix of Redwood and Bay trees that keep the air cool and refreshing. In the summer, kayakers frequent the river, sometimes launching from their campsites.

The host site has a 30 amp hook up, water, sewer and its own phone line. Regional Parks pays for all charges associated with the utilities and the basic phone service. Long distance charges are the responsibility of the host. Internet access through local numbers sometimes incurs a long distance charge so speak with your provider first. Cell phone coverage is spotty in the campground but improves once you drive out. Dish reception is possible but a cable must be run several hundred feet to an opening in the tree cover. The Gualala host site is also equipped with a base station radio that allows the hosts to contact park staff up and down the coast. The campground is infrequently visited during the winter months so, at times camp hosts can be assigned additional maintenance duties based on interest and ability.
