Learn to Grow a Vegetable Garden. New Workshops Teach Gardening Basics

Are you interested in growing your own nutritious food but aren’t sure how to start? Sonoma County Regional Parks and iGROW Sonoma are offering a series of low-cost gardening workshops this spring and summer. Learn the basics of designing, planting, maintaining and harvesting a vegetable garden. Topics will include soil care, choosing what to grow, planting techniques, irrigation and other fundamentals. Whether you’re interested in growing vegetables in your backyard or a community garden, these three-part sessions will help you get started. Classes will be held at gardens in Santa Rosa, Windsor, Sonoma and Petaluma and led by Sara McCamant and Wendy Krupnick, veterans of organic farming on the North Coast and authors of the iGROW blog, igrowsonoma.org/blog.

There is no cost to attend, but donations of $5 to $20 are suggested. Donations will go to the Sonoma County Regional Parks Foundation and the host site. No one will be turned away for a lack of funds. Spanish translation will be available. Children are welcome and can participate in supervised activities while parents attend workshops. For more details, contact Regional Parks at sonomacountyparks.org or (707) 789-9699.
