CELEBRATE EXPANDED PUBLIC ACCESS AT TOLAY LAKE REGIONAL PARK |
Join Tolay Lake Regional Park funders, partners, supporters, permit holders and Parks staff in a celebration of expanded public access on Saturday, October 10th at 10am at Tolay Lake Regional Park.
Following brief talks by County Supervisor Mike Kerns, SCAPOSD District Interim General Manager Bill Keene, Park Commissioner John Mills, and Parks Director Mary Burns, refreshments will be served.
Visitors to Tolay Lake Regional Park now enjoy a much greater degree of public access than ever before as a result of the Interim Public Access Plan adopted by the Board of Supervisors in 2008. The Interim Plan was developed to allow public access to Tolay Lake Regional Park prior to the adoption of a Master Plan for the park. The Interim Plan provides guidelines for public use of the park while a Master Plan for the park is prepared.
Over the next few years, Regional Parks' staff will work closely with project partners, such as Sonoma County Agriculture and Open Space District, and interested members of the community to create a comprehensive park Master Plan. The Master Plan will provide a detailed set of guidelines for the improvement and use of the park. The Interim Plan allows access to the park by permitted users on a limited basis. Permits are free and can be obtained by attending a one-hour orientation. The purpose of the orientation is to familiarize park users with permit procedures and park regulations. The park can be used for a variety of activities such as hiking, bicycling, horseback riding, picnicking and bird watching. The interim plan also allows the park to be used for a variety of educational programs for students.
Celebration attendees are welcome to stay onsite for the Tolay Fall Festival, a family-oriented event that promotes natural, agricultural, scenic, historic, and cultural resources in Sonoma County. Tolay Lake Regional Park is located at the end of Cannon Lane, off Lakeville Highway in Petaluma. The Festival runs October 8-11 & 15-18 from 9am – 3:30pm Thursday and Friday, and 10am to 5pm Saturday and Sunday. Festival admission is free. Parking for the Festival is $6 per car. More information is available at sonomacountyparks.org and (707) 565-2041.
