VOLUNTEER PROJECT – DUNE RESTORATION
|
Join Sonoma County Regional Parks on Saturday, May 17th from 10am – 1pm for a volunteer workday at Gualala Point Regional Park.
We will be removing invasive plants that threaten the native dune grasses. The dunes at the mouth of the Gualala River dunes represent an ecosystem unique in California. Peter Baye PhD, a biologist specializing in coastal wetland ecology, will guide the workday. Park staff will provide tools, gloves, and refreshments. This is the first in a series of projects aimed at restoring the dune system at the mouth of the Gualala River.
Gualala Point Regional Park is located at 42401 Highway 1 just south of the Gualala River Bridge. Participants will meet in the parking lot near the Visitors Center. Volunteers should wear sturdy shoes, long pants and long sleeve shirts and bring a hat and sunscreen. Be prepared for wind and cold weather. Parking for volunteers is free of charge all day in the park. For more information call John Ryan, Volunteer Coordinator, at (707) 565-3356 or send an email to parksvolunteer@sonoma-county.org.
