KENWOOD PLAZA TOT LOT COMPLETED |
Children living in and near Kenwood now have a new play structure to enjoy at Kenwood Plaza Park, thanks to the Valley of the Moon Rotary Club’s vision and generosity.
The original Master Plan for Kenwood Plaza Park, developed in May 1991 by local landscape architect Don MacNair, included a playground for children. Due to fiscal constraints, the playground had not been built. In 1992, Kenwood resident and Rotarian Mike Hogan began working with Don on a plan for a play structure that Valley of the Moon Rotary would fund as their Centennial project. Don came up with a unique climbing structure for the children, with surrounding benches and picnic tables for families to gather. After three years of fundraising, Valley of the Moon Rotary secured the $35,000 needed to purchase the materials, labor and equipment for the construction of the tot lot.
The public is encouraged to attend the dedication celebration on Saturday, July 9, at 11:00 a.m. Guest speakers will include Supervisor Valerie Brown, Parks Director Mary Burns, Rotary Centennial District Governor Bruce Campbell, and Valley of the Moon Rotary Past President Mike Hogan. Refreshments will be served.
Sonoma County Regional Parks salutes the Valley of the Moon Rotary Club for its commitment to provide additional recreational opportunities for the children of Kenwood and their families. In addition, we thank the Ross Recreation Equipment Company for providing the play structure and overseeing the installation; Don MacNair for providing his services; C. Hardy Engineering who performed the excavation and concrete work, and to all the volunteers and merchants who donated their time and resources to the project.
