TOLAY LAKE REGIONAL PARK PUBLIC TOURS SCHEDULED |
Join staff from the Sonoma County Regional Parks Department on a free tour of the future Tolay Lake Regional Park. Scheduled tour dates are Saturday, Jan. 14, Sunday, Jan. 22, Saturday, Feb. 11, and Sunday, Feb. 26, 2006. Located between the Petaluma River and Sonoma Valley off Lakeville Highway, this unique 1737-acre property contains diverse and pristine natural resources, along with a rich agricultural, historic and prehistoric past.
The Sonoma County Agricultural Preservation & Open Space District was able to purchase and preserve Tolay Lake Ranch in September 2005. This acquisition will establish a long-awaited regional park in the southern portion of Sonoma County. There are opportunities to establish multi-use trails for cycling, hiking and equestrian use. The site also offers opportunities for bird watching, picnicking, and interpretation of natural and cultural resources. There will be many opportunities for public input during the park planning process.
Public access is by tour only. Each tour takes place from 9am to 11am, and covers 2-3 miles of moderately strenuous terrain. Children are welcome; however, terrain is too rugged for most strollers. Pets are not allowed. Participants are encouraged to wear warm clothing and sturdy shoes, and to bring drinking water and snacks as necessary. Space is limited, and reservations are required. Call the Regional Parks Special Event Hotline at (707) 565-2730. Please leave your name, the number of people in your party, and your email address, phone number and mailing address for confirmation. More information on Tolay Lake Regional Park can be found at http://www.sonoma-county.org/parks/pk_tolay.htm.
