LEARN ABOUT INVASIVE WEEDS AT FIELD DAY AND BARBEQUE July 23 |
In celebration of California Invasive Weeds Awareness Week, held July 18-24, 2005, join Sonoma County Regional Parks on Saturday, July 23 for a free Invasive Weed Workshop and Field Day, followed by a complimentary barbeque lunch. This event will take place from 9am to 1pm at Spring Lake Regional Park.
Participants will meet at the Oak Knolls group picnic area at 8:45 a.m. They will learn to identify the non-native plant species in Spring Lake Regional Park from 9-10am during a short workshop. Afterward, the group will remove star thistle from the picnic grounds from 10am to noon before enjoying a free barbeque lunch. Spring Lake Regional Park is located at the end of Newanga Ave., off Hoen Ave. in Santa Rosa, CA.
Invasive weeds in California interfere with recreation and habitat conservation. Because many of these species are dispersed by human activities, knowledgeable citizens can help to prevent new weed infestations and combat those already in place.
Space is limited for this event. Call (707) 565-3356 for reservations. All participants will receive a FREE parks T-shirt and have their $5 parking fee waived. Tools, gloves and refreshments will be provided. Participants are encouraged to wear long pants and sleeves, a hat and sunscreen. For more information, call John Ryan at (707) 565-3356.
