SEPTEMBER OUTINGS IN THE COUNTY PARKS |
In Their Own Words: Memories of Life Along the River, A Historical Perspective
(Sonoma County Regional Parks and The Sierra Club)
What was life like along the Russian River in years past? Listen as people who lived and worked along this stretch of the river tell their stories. This is a rare occasion to meet the old timers, hear their stories and pay them a tribute. Simone Wilson, author of The Russian River, will have signed copies to purchase. Food will be provided compliments of the Regional Parks Foundation and will be prepared by volunteers. Reservations required. Program runs from 5pm to 6pm with refreshments following. Bring a beach chair. There is a $4 parking fee.

Tour New Riverfront Park
The Sonoma County Regional Parks Department will be opening a new park along the Russian River in early 2005. The property, purchased by the Sonoma County Agricultural Preservation and Open Space District and the Sonoma County Water Agency, will be managed by the Regional Parks Department. A walking tour led by park staff will take participants through Redwood Groves, around lakes and along the Russian River. The terrain is level and the 2-mile hike is easy. Participants should wear sturdy shoes, sunscreen and bring water. Pre-registration is required.
