OAK ECOLOGY WALK AT SPRING LAKE PARK |
The Sonoma County Regional Parks Department presents a fun and informative nature walk on Sunday, October 10, 2004 at Spring Lake Park in Santa Rosa.
Wade Belew, a naturalist and avid birder, will lead the walk. He has installed bird-nesting boxes in Spring Lake Park, the Laguna de Santa Rosa, and on numerous private properties throughout Sonoma County. Wade also hosts the “Outsiders”, a local nature segment that is broadcast on the KRSH, 95.9 FM every other Monday.
Participants should arrive at the Environmental Discovery Center of Sonoma County (EDC), located just inside the Violetti Road entrance to Spring Lake Park, at 10am. The first part of the walk is all-access, and will focus on the oaks surrounding the EDC. Wade will discuss oak ecology and different methods of identification. Starting at 11am, participants will take a several mile, 1 ½ hour walk around Spring Lake. Stops will be made at several prominent oak trees to discuss their unique features. Participants should wear comfortable shoes and bring drinking water.
