On July 17, 2007 the Sonoma County Board of Supervisors approved advertising for bids to construct Phase 2 of Riverfront Regional Park. Construction bids are to be opened August 20, 2007 and construction is tentatively scheduled to start in late September and continue into December 2007.  Construction will take place Monday through Friday and exclude Saturday, Sunday and Holidays. Proposed construction includes a restroom building, utilities and pedestrian bridge in the existing Redwood Grove Picnic area and development of six family picnic table sites at the East Lake Picnic Area (See attached Picnic Area Location Map). The Redwood Grove group picnic area will be impacted during construction of the bridge and restroom building as identified on the attached site map (See attached Redwood Grove Picnic Area Site Map).

Funding for the project includes a $300,000 grant from the California Resources Agency’s Proposition 40 River Parkways program and a $35,000 donation to the Regional Parks Foundation’s from the McDonald family.

The Board of Supervisors approved the Master Plan for the Park’s five (5) phases of development in 2004.  The first phase of park development, including an entrance driveway, parking, group and family picnic areas, and two miles of trails, was completed in November 2004.  The property was purchased with a Matching Grant Agreement between the Sonoma County Water Agency, Sonoma County Agricultural Preservation and Open Space District, and the Regional Parks Department that authorizes park development and management.
