Healthy Eating Active Living Heading Healthy Eating Active Living Initiative


Seniors Chronic Disease, including cancer, heart disease, stroke, chronic lung disease and diabetes, accounts for the majority of deaths in Sonoma County. Many chronic diseases are considered preventable and are linked to lifestyle behaviors such as smoking, alcohol abuse, obesity and lack of exercise.

Prevention efforts currently underway include the Northcoast 5 a Day—Power Play! Program, the Community Activity and Nutrition Coalition, the Local Incentive Award Program, Healthy Eating Activing Living Community Health Initiative, the Tobacco Use Prevention Program and Alcohol and Other Drug Prevention Program activities. Program staff members are involved in several collaborative projects aimed at increasing the activity level and fruit and vegetable consumption among Sonoma County residents.

Request for Applications

Network for a Healthy California - - Children's Power Play!:

The County of Sonoma Department of Health Services requests applications from non-profit organizations and public agencies to manage and coordinate the Network for a Healthy California-- Children's Power Play! Campaign for the Northcoast Region.

Applications are due on or before January 14, 2008 at 5:00 p.m.

Communities of Excellence in Nutrition, Physical Activity and Obesity Prevention :

The County of Sonoma Department of Health Services (DHS) announces the release of a Request for Applications to conduct the Communities of Excellence in Nutrition, Physical Activity and Obesity Prevention (CX3) assessment and planning project.
