Funding Opportunities

Request for Proposals: Community-Based Organization to Provide Alcohol and Other Drug Prevention Services, Due January 2, 2008 3:00 pm.

The Sonoma County Department of Health Services (DHS) Prevention and Planning Division is pleased to announce the release of a request for applications (RFA) for a non-profit organization to provide alcohol and other drug prevention services as part of a team that will implement Project SUCCESS in the Cotati-Rohnert Park Unified School District (CRPUSD).

In August 2007, Sonoma County was selected to receive a Safe and Drug Free Schools and Communities (SDFSC) grant from the California Department of Alcohol and Drug Programs to address the problem of alcohol use/binge drinking by high school youth.  Over the next 5 years, the Department of Health Services will work collaboratively with CRPUSD, Sonoma County Office of Education, and other key community partners to implement Project SUCCESS.  A contract award of up to  $90,000 per year is available to fund the qualifying agency to implement the school-based prevention and education component of the program.

Project SUCCESS is a student assistance program designed to prevent and reduce substance abuse among high-risk adolescents by placing extensively trained counselors in schools to provide a full range of substance use prevention and early intervention services with the goal of identifying and assisting youth who are at high risk for developing alcohol and other drug (AOD) problems. Prevention services including assessment, referral, education and support, are designed to: increase adolescent’s perception of harm; change adolescent norms and expectations about substance use; and, to help adolescents develop social competency skills, such as communication, decision-making, stress and anger management, problem solving, and resisting peer pressure.

DHS requests proposals from organizations/agencies serving Sonoma County that are interested in working with the Project SUCCESS model to provide alcohol and other drug prevention services on the Cotati-Rohnert Park High School campus and alternative high school campuses. Proposals are due by 3:00 p.m. on January 2, 2008.  A mandatory bidder’s conference is scheduled for December 17th, 2007 from 10:00- 12:00 p.m. at 475 Aviation Boulevard, 2nd Floor, in Santa Rosa.
