A Message From the Sonoma County Health Officer
From Mary Maddux-González, MD, MPH
Sonoma County Health Officer and Public Health Division Director
With winter over, many people think the flu season is finished, but H1N1 influenza is still here, causing illness, lost days from work and school, and in some cases hospitalization and even death. Many members of our community are still at risk because not everyone has been vaccinated.
Getting vaccinated is the best way to protect yourself, your family and our community throughout the year. Everyone over the age of six months should be vaccinated against H1N1 flu. Parents, remember, children less than 10 years of age need two doses of the H1N1 vaccine. Don't take a chance; the flu can be a deadly serious illness. Get a flu shot; it's safe, effective and prevents deaths.
