HIV Services: Prescription Drug Programs

Medicare Part D

Medicare Part D is the new prescription-drug coverage program for patients with Medicare. With the passage of the Medicare Modernization Act of 2003, Congress created a prescription drug benefit for Medicare beneficiaries. This drug benefit will take effect January 1, 2006 and is referred to as Medicare Part D. This represents the largest shift in public benefits in forty years and will have a major impact on people living with HIV/AIDS.

If you would like some help figuring out this complicated new benefit, please call Brian Griffiths at the Center for HIV Prevention and Care (707) 565-7400.

AIDS Drug Assistance Program (ADAP)

For more information about ADAP, contact The Center at 707-565-7402.

The AIDS Drug Assistance Program (ADAP) is a government funded program which provides prescription drugs to persons with HIV infection without financial means to pay for drugs. ADAP funds are only to be used after all other potential resources have been explored. Enrollment is through The Center for HIV Prevention and Care and Kaiser (if you are a Kaiser member). Many pharmacies accept ADAP coverage.

To qualify for ADAP, you must meet certain criteria. A single Sonoma County resident whose federal annual adjusted gross income is less than $35,920 is eligible. Individuals or families whose gross adjusted income is over the allowable amount but less than $50,000 may be eligible for a partial subsidy. Application for Medi-Cal, if eligible, is required for ADAP enrollment.
