Agency Presentations

ReConnect Advocates are available to speak at agencies throughout the community. RAs focus on reaching out to community-based agencies that serve people with disabilities but may not yet serve people with HIV/AIDS. RAs provide initial introductions to the Project ReConnect philosophy, problem-solve barriers to services, and help to forge ties between agencies, consumers and providers.

Sample materials for agency presentations include:

Peer-to-peer Program

ReConnect Advocates provide one-on-one peer support and counseling for people with HIV/AIDS to help them to "get their life back" by re-imagining it within the paradigm shift of HIV/AIDS medical and support advances. The ReConnect Advocates are available on a regular basis on the telephone or at local agencies that serve people with HIV. They explain the Project ReConnect philosophy, link people with services and community organizations, and help to bridge the distance between the present and the future.

Provider Training Workshop

The Provider training offers an opportunity to discuss and share strategies for serving the HIV/AIDS community under the "new" model of care. The five hour training sessions serve to:

  1. Involve as many people as possible in the Project ReConnect philosophy and action model
  2. Offer providers the tools and strategies to infuse the ReConnect philosophy in their jobs
  3. Acknowledge local resources/providers who are already ReConnecting and create a forum for sharing their experiences
  4. Target the breadth of providers working with people with HIV/AIDS as well as those who may do so in the future.

Reimagining the Future

Project ReConnect developed presentations for local, state and national conferences to explain its vision, goals, and the activities that can make them a reality. Project ReConnect's unique model to help individuals with HIV/AIDS, their community and their current and future providers and employers make the paradigm shift from isolation to connection can be adapted by other communities with the tools in the presentation and other resources available in this toolkit.

The presentation is an interactive discussion in which participants are guided to understand the paradigm shift on a personal level with the members of their own community.
