International Travel Clinic: Before Your Appointment

There is no surefire way to guarantee safe and illness-free travel; however, education and planning will be your best defense. Take some time to complete these tasks in preparation for your appointment.

1. Request an appointment at the clinic. Allow at least one hour for your visit, which will include a consultation with a travel advisor and a review of your travel itinerary.
2. Learn about your destination, and familiarize yourself with the various health issues you could encounter and the vaccinations recommended for the region you are visiting.
3. Read about the risks associated with the vaccinations you will be requesting. At your appointment, you will be given a copy of the Vaccine Information Statement for each vaccination you receive; reviewing the information before your appointment will help you think of any questions you may want to ask the clinician.
4. Estimate the costs of your vaccinations. Patients pay for the cost of the vaccinations and a fee for the medical consultation.
5. Locate your vaccination/immunization records, and bring them with you to your appointment.
