Participants will learn the historical and contemporary rationale for harm reduction and it’s importance in today’s treatment curricula, and in client retention and chronic disease model theories.

Client Retention & Case Management

Client retention is a crucial aspect of improving the system of care in the chronic disease model of substance abuse treatment. Participants will learn methods and interventions to make their treatment environments more amenable to client retention, including utilizing elements of comprehensive case management.

Participants will learn the importance of counselor effect, client centered treatment, interventions that improve listening, mirroring and feedback to keep your case load full and your outcomes good.

Psychiatric Co-Occurring

Participants will learn about the mental health disorders most effecting our clients and how to recognize symptoms that would necessitate a referral. Participants will also learn how individuals with PTSD have been traumatized by events and relationships that have exacerbated their drug use and threaten their recovery.

Sexual Harassment

Role modeling, real life examples and situations will be detailed to assist participants in understanding the nuances and importance of appropriate behavior to avoid being exposed to sexual harassment incidents.
