Edi Patrick

"After graduation from UC Berkeley with a degree in Political Science, I began a career as a public welfare social worker in Los Angeles County. After thirteen months I left to have my first child. LA County did not offer maternity leave and my husband was returning to school. We came back to Sonoma County, where I had grown up on a chicken ranch near Penngrove.

I began work with the Sonoma County Social Service Department (known now as Human Services) in 1965. In 1976 I became the first Court Officer for the agency, representing the child welfare workers in Juvenile Court. I later supervised the Dependency Court Unit, responsible for the filing and investigation of all abuse and neglect cases brought before the Juvenile Court.

My last assignment with the department was as Emergency Response (CPS) supervisor. My staff would intervene in the lives of children alleged to be the victims of abuse and neglect. Interventions included providing services to the children in their homes and, in a minority of the situations, removal of the children and court intervention. The abuse of drugs and alcohol was a factor in the vast majority of families where the children could not remain safely at home. I truly saw the impact of substance abuse on the children and their families.

I retired from county service in 2001. I look back on my career with tremendous pleasure and came to volunteer for a board assignment as a way of giving back. I can only hope that my experience will allow me to make a meaningful contribution."

Kevin McConnell

Kevin McConnell

Kevin McConnell has been  a Sonoma County resident since 1978.  Kevin graduated from Sonoma State University in 1981 with degrees in Economics and Management.  He attended law school at Golden Gate University in San Francisco, graduating with honors in 1984.

Kevin has a busy law practice with offices headquartered in Santa Rosa.  His practice includes business, real estate, and construction defect litigation, although a large amount of his time is spent in the criminal courts representing those accused of crimes.  Kevin got clean and sober in 1995 and takes particular interest in representing clients who have come into contact with the criminal justice system directly or indirectly as a consequence of their drug and alcohol issues.

Kevin and his wife Cindy are raising their two sons; they are very active and enjoy hiking, fishing, and especially wakeboarding--they can be found on Lake Sonoma most weekends from late February through early November each year.
