County of Sonoma - Commute

Employee Commute

With over 4200 employees working for the County of Sonoma, our commuters are responsible for about 14,000 tons of Greenhouse Gas (GHG) per year. This is over a third of the total GHG emissions the County produces.

Your Part

To put this in perspective, if you drive alone to and from work five days per week, with your average commute being about 24 miles, you alone are producing 3 tons of GHGs per year.

Together, Solutions

The County of Sonoma is pleased to announce that we are introducing our alternative commute plan this summer. Some of the options we are looking into for the plan include telework, car and vanpool insentives, compressed work week options, public transit, and bike and walk to work programs.

Current Events

We are talking to experts in alternative commute, and will arrive at a comprehensive commute plan that will help us meet our 20% GJG reduction goal by 2010., as well as put some money back into the pockets of Sonoma County employees with alternative commute incentives, like free bus passes.

Our Future

Together we can look forward to great strides toward a cleaner, greener, Sonoma County. Look for upcoming County of Sonoma Commute Seminars and Events to help you learn about your options and make the best choices for yourself and your community.
