Welcome to our web site and thank you for taking the time to learn about the services we provide for the citizens and visitors of Sonoma County. Our diverse and beautiful County provides residents and visitors many opportunities to live and recreate along our beautiful coastline, on our many rivers and lakes, hike and camp in the thousands of forest acres, and enjoy our cities both large and small. The men and women of Sonoma County Fire and Emergency Services Department, are dedicated to protecting our communities, our wild land, and our environment from the negative impacts of fire, medical emergency situations, hazardous materials release, and natural and human caused disasters.
It is an honor to serve as the Director and Fire Chief for Sonoma County with nearly 350 men and women both career and volunteer that are passionately dedicated to our motto of “Life, Response, and Prevention”. The Department consisting of five divisions Administration, Fire Prevention, Fire Operations and Training, Hazardous Materials and Emergency Management, strive in providing a full range of emergency and non-emergency services for the residents and visitors of Sonoma County that include responding to fires, medical emergencies, motor vehicle accidents, technical rescues, and other life threatening or dangerous conditions as the lead agency, or in support of that agency having jurisdiction.
In our efforts to help minimize emergency and dangerous life safety conditions, we provide comprehensive Community Risk Reduction programs, Fire Prevention programs, and Emergency Management Services for the Sonoma County Operational Area. Our efforts include active participation in regional and local planning processes to address Flooding, Tsunami, Oil Spill, Earthquake and other response, recover and mitigation considerations. Our emergency management capabilities are tested often. As the beautiful Russian River provides a calm and comfortable location to cool down during the summer, it often becomes a major force of destruction as winter rains can cause significant havoc.
Our Emergency Operations Center (EOC) provides an excellent work environment to manage both large scale events and disasters. The team of emergency managers include staff from all County departments, representatives from other cities and districts and all come together in a cooperative work environment to help mitigate the emergency situation.
