With the number of film festivals it is obvious that the Independent Film industry is on the rise. Sonoma County, located less than 30 miles north of San Francisco, provides a natural presence with a choice of different climates and locations for production. Boasting more than 200 of the world’s most award-winning wineries, 58 miles of scenic Pacific Ocean coastline, rolling mountains, redwood forests, and the majestic Russian River, Sonoma County is an ideal location for the independent filmmaker.
Sonoma County’s diverse landscape, coupled with our reputation for hospitality, allows the filmmaker to complete any and all aspects of their independent film. The Independent Film industry is growing fast in Sonoma County and we invite you to become a part of it.

- Ecofabulous Environmental Film Festival in Sonoma - January 25-27, 2008
The first annual Sonoma Environmental Film Festival (SEFF), takes place in the town of Sonoma, January 25 - 27, 2008. SEFF plans to celebrate the green revolution with a program of informative, fun and inspiring films. Environmental topics include green building, solar and biodiesel energy, sustainable economic development, living traditions, organic and biodynamic agriculture, wilderness conservation and water. Also planned are green exhibits, keynote speakers, a Benefit Crab Feed and a Green Cafe offering local artisan products, organic beverages and wines sourced from sustainable vineyards.
So what exactly is organic and biodynamic farming? What are the benefits? For the latest cutting edge information about this growing phenomenon don't miss the film "One Man, One Cow, One Planet" Saturday January 26th at 7PM. There will be a complementary wine tasting before the film. After the film, guest speakers from Benziger, Deerfield, Frey and Quivira wineries will be on hand to answer questions.
Also of note is a free Double Feature on Saturday January 26th at 11AM. "The Organic Opportunity" tells the story of how one Iowa county transformed its economy through the adoption of small farm organic food production as economic development. "Ripe for Change" a multi award winning film, features world famous Alice Waters and her passion for organic food and school gardens.
All films and events take place at the historic Sonoma Valley Womans Club at 574 First Street East in Sonoma. The building, built in 1916, is a cozy, intimate venue, perfect for mingling and movie watching. Many of the films are recommended for students age 11 - 18 and all are for adults.
SEFF is a Zero Waste event. Only 250 programs on recycled paper will be printed and only available at the venue. Tickets are eucalyptus leaves and Weekend Passes (limited to 75) are made of small pieces of recycled wood. Net proceeds benefit Sonoma Valley School Gardens. - FOURTH ANNUAL REEL WOMEN FILM FESTIVAL - March 8-12, 2008
About the festival:
Described by Backstage West as a "must attend event for all women in the entertainment industry", the 2007 festival opened at the Skirball Culture Center with Open Window directed by Mia Goldman. Open Window was acquired by Showtime and made its debuted on the network this summer. Our 4th annual festival will take place March 8th - March 12th in Beverly Hills California.
In addition to the four day festival, women filmmakers will have a unique opportunity to network with other filmmakers throughout the year at entertainment events. Reel Women sponsors including; AFI's Directing Workshop for Women Gala, AWRT Genii Awards, Women in Film Symposium, as well as our monthly screening/speaker series.
