Green Benefits

In order to reach a wider range of businesses, the Sonoma County Economic Development Board (EDB) is now coordinating the Green Business Program.

As a result, the Department of Emergency Services (DES) is no longer accepting applications from those interested in being certified as Green. Businesses previously listed as Green may be able to maintain their status but must be re-certified by the EDB. This site's list of businesses that went through the DES certification process will be valid through January 2009.

This program provides facilities an opportunity to work closely with their local environmental regulatory agencies in coming into compliance with a variety of environmental regulations. After volunteering for the program, you will be assigned a 'lead' agency and staff person to assist you through the process. You will also receive a 10% reduction in your annual CUPA fees.

Once you qualify for the Sonoma Green program you will be given a window logo sticker and certificate for use at your facility. You will also have access to the Sonoma Green logo for use on your business' stationary. Once you qualify for the Bay Area Green program, you will be issued the Bay Area Green window logo sticker and certificate.

Businesses around the nation who participate in this program have indicated that the most benefit they have seen in becoming a 'Green Business' is that it has helped save their facilities money, especially in recycling, pollution prevention and waste reduction activities which they have learned through this program. Another major benefit is the good public relations with their communities and their environmental regulators.

If you would like additional information on this program, please contact any of the agencies list.
