Becoming Green

In order to reach a wider range of businesses, the Sonoma County Economic Development Board (EDB) is now coordinating the Green Business Program.

As a result, the Department of Emergency Services (DES) is no longer accepting applications from those interested in being certified as Green. Businesses previously listed as Green may be able to maintain their status but must be re-certified by the EDB. This site's list of businesses that went through the DES certification process will be valid through January 2009.

If you are interested in becoming a "Green Business" and your business is related to the auto industry, winery industry or graphic arts industries, please contact the Department of Emergency Services at (707) 565-1152. They will send you a self-assessment packet which you can use to determine if your facility is ready for certification. You can also get additional assistance from the North Bay Permit Assistance Center. You can also download these self-assessment packets: PDF FileAuto Repair Checklist, Wineries Checklist, and Printers' Checklists.

If you are a winery, another document you may find useful is PDF IconGreenovations. This document compiles information on best management practices implemented by some of our certified-Green wineries. It includes information on water and energy use, handling of solid waste and a section on greening your staff. It also includes winery contact names and phone numbers.

You can also contact any of the lead agencies list for additional information. These lead agencies are indicated with an asterisk.
