SONOMA COUNTY DEPARTMENT OF FIRE SERVICES
STANDARD OPERATING PROCEDURES
PURPOSE
To establish a consistent means of providing fire safety inspections
for large residential day care facilities.
POLICY
It shall be the policy of the Sonoma County Department of Emergency
Services to conduct fire inspections for new and existing Large
Family Day Care facilities according to the California Fire Code,
California Building Code
and Title 19.
Inspections for new Large Family Day Care facilities shall include
an inspection by a P.R.M.D. Building Inspector.
Inspection fees shall be collected per the Fee Ordinance and
according to Department policy.
Definition
Day Care Home, Large Family, is a provider's own home licensed
to provide care for periods less than 24 hours per day for seven
to twelve persons, including children under the age of ten who
reside at the home.
These occupancies are classified by the Building Code as an
R occupancy. Specific requirements relating to exiting and other
life safety issues are found as State amendments to the Building Code. Facilities are licensed by the State
Community Care Licensing Board.
