Fire Services: Permit and Inspection Services

One of the major activities of the division is to enforce the California Fire Code and other fire-related codes and ordinances. Responsibilities include reviewing building construction plans, inspections of new construction for code compliance, conducting fire safety inspections for commercial occupancies, special events and licensed care facilities, and vegetation management plans and inspections.

The division is staffed by Two full-time fire inspectors including Extra-Help. A Fire Services Customer Service staff person is available for walk-in questions and consultations between 8:30-4 Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday, and between 10:30-4 on Wednesdays at the Permit and Resource Management Department located at 2550 Ventura Avenue in Santa Rosa. Fire inspections are scheduled using the automated inspection system (SELECTRON) through Permit and Resource Management Department (PRMD). Inspections are on a 24 hour notification. The telephone number to SELECTRON is 707-565-3551. You must have a issued permit number issued by PRMD

Inspection requests for the areas of Jenner, Timbercove, Annapolis, Sea Ranch, and areas north of Cazadero are conducted Mondays and Fridays only.

Site mitigation's and site evaluations are available and require a 2 hour inspection fee. Mitigation's and site evaluations will be conducted at the discretion of the fire inspector. Contact: Steve Mosiurchak at 707-565-1380 to arrange for a site visit.

Avoid Re-Inspection Fees and Cancellations:

Construction with out permits:

  • Any construction with out permits will be subject to fines adopted by State and Local code.

If a project if found by a Fire Code Official or a complaint is filed with Sonoma County Building Department or the Sonoma County Department of Emergency Services the violator will be subject to fines prior to the issue of the permit.

If a site inspection is requested and and the site is not ready when the inspector arrives then a 2 hour inspection fee will be charged to the permit applicant at the discretion of the fire inspector.

Residential and commercial fire sprinkler permits must be requested by the sprinkler contractor. Failure to comply the requested inspection will be canceled.
