EX-JV SOCCER COACH SENTENCED

District Attorney Stephan Passalacqua announced that today Richard Alexander Vives, of Santa Rosa, was sentenced for molesting a sixteen year old girl last year.  Vives, 42, faced a maximum of eight years in state prison for the felony charge of committing oral copulation on a victim who could not resist due to an intoxicating substance.  Vives was formerly a soccer coach for Piner High School’s junior varsity girls’ team.  The Honorable Elliot Daum placed Vives on supervised probation for three years and ordered him to serve one year in the county jail, which was consistent with the Probation Department’s recommendation.  The defendant must register for life as a sex offender.  If he violates any term of his probation, he could be sentenced to prison for the eight year maximum term.

On October 3, 2008, the sixteen year-old victim, who was friends with Vives’ daughter, spent the night at Vives’ home.  After others went to bed, Vives provided the victim with several drinks containing liquor and drank along with her.  After the victim became highly intoxicated, Vives committed the sexual acts charged.

Deputy District Attorney Jason Riehl was the prosecutor assigned to the case. Santa Rosa Police Detective Michael Musgrove was the lead investigator.
