GRANDSON CHARGED WITH MURDER
District Attorney Stephan Passalacqua announced today that charges have been filed against Sean Mooney, 20, of Chico, for the May 20, 2008 murder of Robert Deming, age 77, the grandfather of the suspect . The criminal complaint alleges charges of murder, elder abuse, and possession of a stolen shotgun. Additional allegations were also charged, including the use of a firearm and the infliction of great bodily injury on an elderly victim.
On May 20, 2008 at 9:21 a.m. sheriff’s deputies responded to a 911 call by suspect Mooney regarding a shooting. The deputies found the victim shot in the head at close range while sitting in a chair watching television. Suspect Mooney was the only other person on the Schellville property.
On May 23, 2008 Mooney appeared in Department 14 of the Superior Court. Mooney requested that his entry of plea be postponed to May 29, 2008. His bail is currently set at no bail.
