SONOMA COUNTY DEPUTY D.A. TO SPEAK AT INTERNATIONAL ASSOCIATION OF CHIEFS OF POLICE CONFERENCE ON ENVIRONMENTAL ENFORCEMENT
District Attorney Stephan Passalacqua announced today that Deputy District Attorney Jeffrey W. Holtzman will be a speaker at the 114th Annual International Association of Chiefs of Police Conference held in New Orleans, Louisiana from October 13-17, 2007. Holtzman will be on a panel presentation on at the October 14 session entitled "Local Enforcement of Environmental Crimes: Will You Be Ready When the Call Comes?"
"Enforcement of environmental crimes at the local level has long been a priority for this District Attorney’s Office and I am pleased we will be able to share our experiences with others in law enforcement to assist them in this important mission," said District Attorney Stephan Passalacqua. "Increasingly, communities across the United States and throughout the world are realizing the need to take action locally to protect our shared resources," Passalacqua added.
Attendees of the panel presentation will be provided a blueprint for establishing a successful environmental crimes program that complements the many other varied responsibilities of local police departments. This presentation will demonstrate the direct connection between community policing, public safety and environmental crime.
The panel will consist of Deputy D.A. Holtzman, Scott Swanson- Deputy Police Chief (Ret.) for the Santa Rosa Police Department, David Dillon- Special Agent in Charge, U.S. Environmental Protection Agency Criminal Investigations Division, New York regional office, and Rick Rosenthal- national media relations expert and president of RAR Communications, Winnetka, Illinois.
Mr. Holtzman has been a Deputy District Attorney assigned to the Environmental and Consumer Law Division since December, 1989 and has been recognized as a legal expert in this area across the state and nation.
