District Attorney Stephan Passalacqua announced today that Christopher Delrosario, a police officer with the Oakland Police Department, was held to answer to charges that were the result of an incident that occurred on September 1, 2006, in the city of Sonoma. At the conclusion of a preliminary hearing, Superior Court Judge Elliot Daum found there was sufficient evidence to have Delrosario stand trial on one count of felony assault with a semi-automatic firearm, two counts of brandishing a firearm at a person in a vehicle, and one misdemeanor count of committing domestic violence.
Two witnesses testified that they observed a woman walking alone on Napa Street late at night. They were concerned because the weather was cold, the woman had no jacket, and she was repeatedly looking over her shoulder. As they turned to offer assistance, Delrosario pulled his vehicle next to the woman. Both witnesses observed the defendant grab the woman and attempt to pull her into his vehicle. When the witnesses attempted to stop the assault, the defendant pulled a semi-automatic firearm from his waistband and pointed it at the head of both witnesses.
The defendant was located a short time later at a nearby hotel. After repeatedly denying he had a firearm with him, officers found a semi-automatic firearm concealed under the hood of his vehicle.
Delrosario is scheduled to be arraigned in court on the information on December 22nd. A trial date is expected to be set at that time.
