District Attorney Stephan Passalacqua announced today that defendant Guillermo Chavez Gonzales pled no contest to shooting a 29 year-old Santa Rosa man with a semi-automatic handgun. Gonzales also pled no contest to charges of transporting methamphetamine and possessing methamphetamine while armed with a loaded firearm.
The December 2005 shooting occurred at the Valero Gas station located on Farmer’s Lane in Santa Rosa. The victim was shot once and suffered a collapsed left lung. He was released after being treated at Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital for three days.
Gonzales pled after his jury trial commenced before Superior Court Judge Elliott Daum. He is scheduled to be sentenced on January 11, 2007, to a state prison term of twenty-five years.
Deputy District Attorney Jason Riehl was the prosecutor assigned to the case and was assisted by District Attorney Investigator Ken Pistorio and Santa Rosa Police Detective Brenda Harrington.
