District Attorney Stephan Passalacqua announced today that the Board of Supervisors proclaimed October as Domestic Violence Awareness month. This resolution was requested by the Commission on the Status of Women, the Sheriff’s Department, and the District Attorney’s Office to raise the awareness of domestic violence.
Communities around the nation come together during October to mourn those who have died as a result of domestic violence, to celebrate those who have survived domestic violence, and to honor the tireless work that everyone in our community is doing to end domestic violence. Purple ribbons have been used for the past two decades as a visual gesture of support for victims of domestic violence. The purple ribbons are a unifying symbol of survival, courage, and dedication to ending domestic violence.
On Saturday, October 22, in Courthouse Square in Santa Rosa, the First Annual Family Fun Fest will be held from 1:00 to 5:00 p.m. to continue raising the public awareness of domestic violence and show support for those impacted by crime. A number of non-profit organizations, law enforcement agencies, and the District Attorney’s Victim Assistance Center will have tables with brochures and resource information for the public.
