District Attorney Stephan Passalacqua announced today the conviction of Defendant Gregg Lynn Hann.
On May 4, 2005, after a four-day trial, a Sonoma County jury found Gregg Lynn Hann guilty of assault with a deadly weapon upon Sonoma County Sheriff's Deputies Tony King and Jim Naugle. District Attorney Passalacqua stated, "I am hopeful this conviction will send a message to those who respond violently to law enforcement officers."
Close to midnight on February 12, 2004, Deputies King and Naugle were dispatched to Hann's residence in Glen Ellen on a call of a possible domestic violence. Upon arrival, the deputies noticed that the front door was wide open and the house appeared ransacked. They also heard noise coming from the backyard, where they found Hann lying on the ground. While attempting to determine if Hann was a victim of a crime and needed assistance, Hann became enraged and attacked the deputies. Hann picked up a four-foot-long metal post-hole digger, wielded it like a baseball bat, ran at the deputies, and swung it at their heads.
The four day trial was heard before Superior Court Judge Elliot Lee Daum. Marianna Lehr was the assigned prosecutor. The defendant is scheduled to be sentenced on June 27, 2005. He is facing a maximum penalty of six years and four months in state prison.
