If evacuation is necessary: Do not panic. Proceed
to the nearest exit. Assist the disabled to an outside area.
If caught in heavy smoke: Crawl because the air nearest
the floor has less smoke.
Take short breaths. Cover your nose and mouth with a piece of cloth.
If the exit door is blocked or warm to the touch: Remain where
you are.
- Use the phone if possible and call 911. Inform them of your location.
- Try to block smoke from coming in the room using wet cloths, towels
or upholstery.
- Once outside, verify that everyone is out, and stay outside.
