MOBILEHOME PARK RENT STABILIZATION

In 1985, the Sonoma County Board of Supervisors recognized that a serious problem of rapidly increasing mobilehome park space rents existed in the unincorporated areas of Sonoma County.

The purpose of the Sonoma County Ordinance is to stabilize the rate of mobilehome park space rental in order to prevent exploitation of the shortage of vacant mobilehome spaces; to prevent excessive and unreasonable mobilehome park space rent increases; to rectify the disparity of bargaining power which exists between park residents and park owners; to provide mobilehome park owners with a guaranteed rate of annual space rent increase which reflects the rate of inflation and increases in their expenses; and to provide a process for ensuring mobilehome park owners a fair, just, and reasonable rate of return on their parks in cases where the guaranteed annual space rent increase provided by the ordinance proves insufficient.

The Clerk of the Sonoma County Mobilehome Park Space Rent Stabilization Ordinance is Kathleen H. Kane, Executive Director of the Sonoma County Community Development Commission.

The Sonoma County Community Development Commission administers the Rent Control Ordinance for the unincorporated areas of Sonoma County, and is under contract with the cities of Cotati, Petaluma, Sebastopol, and the Town of Windsor to provide arbitration services for space rent disputes.
