What funding does the Community Development
Commission have available for public facilities / improvements?
The Community Development Commission uses a portion of its Community
Development Block Grant (CDBG) funding to assist public facilities
/ improvement projects.
What activities are eligible for public
facilities / improvements funding?
CDBG funding can be used to assist a wide variety of public facilities
or improvements, including construction or rehabilitation of senior centers,
sewer and water line extensions, accessibility modifications for public
buildings and parks, sidewalk and street improvements, curb cuts for wheelchair
access, construction or rehabilitation of homeless shelters or transitional
housing units, and more. It must be documented that all public facilities
/ improvements assisted with CDBG funding serve people who are low-income
(80% or median area income) or who are
disabled, over 62, homeless, or fit into another one of HUD’s “presumed
benefit” categories.
Who decides what projects will get funded
and how much they will get?
The Community Development Committee (the Commission’s advisory body
appointed by the Board of Supervisors) and the Technical Advisory Committee
(representing the incorporated jurisdictions of Cloverdale, Cotati, Healdsburg,
Rohnert Park, Sebastopol, Sonoma and Windsor) make recommendations to
the Board of Supervisors, which ultimately makes the final funding decisions.
