NOTICE TO THE PUBLIC
In an effort to improve service to the public, the incoming Board Chair has directed the Clerk to adjust the evening meeting schedule. Starting in January 2005, every meeting will begin at 8:30 a.m. for the consent and regular calendar items. The afternoon calendar will begin at 2:00 p.m. with Public Comment at that time. Noticed public hearings will follow. These times are consistent with the usual schedule. Additionally, the Clerk will agendize issues of high public interest in the evening and provide the public with ample notice through the posted copies of the agenda throughout the county, the County of Sonoma web site at www.sonoma-county.org , and notices in the newspapers.
In 2004, the Board of Supervisors held afternoon and evening meetings on the 4th Tuesday of every month to provide for more public participation with mixed results. Conducting evening meetings only on the 4th Tuesday did not allow for flexibility in scheduling issues that had to be heard sooner and would have been appropriate for an evening meeting. The schedule change did not result in increased attendance. Additionally, there has been confusion as to which meeting of the month follows that schedule.
It is the hope of the
incoming Chair that this
change will eliminate
the confusion on the
start times for the meetings
and public comment, provide
the flexibility to schedule
issues for the evening
when warranted and provide
the public with the opportunity
for regular and meaningful
input. Feel free to contact
the Clerk of the Board
at bos@sonoma-county.org or
707-565-2241 with any
questions concerning
this schedule change.
