BACKGROUND:
Tim Smith was born in San Rafael and graduated from Terra Linda High School in Marin. He served in Vietnam from 1970 to 1972 as a radioman in the U.S. Navy. Tim graduated from Sonoma State University with a B.A. in Political Science and attended graduate school there in Public Administration.
Tim’s public service began in 1979 as an administrative assistant to then State Assemblyman Doug Bosco continuing as district director when Bosco was elected as 1st District United States Congressman. He was elected to the Sonoma County Board of Supervisors in 1988 and was reelected in the 2004 March primary election to his fifth four year term.
DISTRICT INFO:
The 3rd district’s northern boundary is Mark West Springs Road. Most of central Santa Rosa, east to Los Olivos and Farmers Lane and west to Piner, Marlow and Link Lane lie within the 3rd District. The City of Rohnert Park east of Highway 101 and Sonoma State University mark the southern end of the district.
RESPONSIBILITY:
The Board of Supervisors of the County of Sonoma is charged with the responsibility of establishing policy to guide the various functions of the County and, where necessary, to establish procedures by which functions are performed. Supervisor Smith’s assigned Functional Group of County departments for the year 2008 is Criminal Justice System Services. Special assignments include Bay Area Air Quality Management District, Joint Roseland Subcommittee, and Public Policy Facilitating Committee. Supervisor Smith is assigned as an alternate member of the FishNet 4C, Bay Conservation Development Commission, Eel Russian River Commission, and the Northbay Watershed Association and as Alternate Director for the Water Advisory Committee.
