Randy Poole from the Sonoma County Water Agency, Randy DeCaminada from PG&E, and Jim Andersen from the Sonoma County Administrator's Office provided forecasts of the supply and cost of water, energy, and waste resources for businesses in the upcoming year. Past EventsJune 16, 2007: BEA visits Petaluma Chamber of CommerceOn June 16, BEA Co-Chair Scott Kirk and BEA staff met with the Petaluma Chamber of Commerce Government Relations Committee to discuss water conservation. Scott presented the BEA programs pertaining to water conservation and discussed current water issues in Petaluma and throughout Sonoma County. May 31, 2006: Celebrate Solar PowerBEA Co-Chair Scott Kirk spoke at the Sonoma County Water Agency’s “Celebrate Solar Power” event held on May 31. Scott joined Paul Kelley, Chairman of the Board of Supervisors, Randy DeCaminada from PG&E, and Congresswoman Lynn Woolsey to discuss the benefits of using solar power. February 24, 2006: BEA Annual BreakfastThe Business Environmental Alliance held its annual breakfast, “The 2006 Business Environmental Forecast” on Friday, February 24, at the Hilton Sonoma Wine Country in Santa Rosa. The event featured insights into the challenges our community faces as resources become scarcer and more expensive. The program focused on giving business leaders an update on:
In addition, representatives from BEA, PG&E, the Sonoma County Water Agency, and the Waste Management Agency provided information about ways to help businesses better manage resource usage. The speakers at the event included; Paul Kelley (Chair of County of Sonoma Board of Supervisors), Randy DeCaminada (PG&E North Coast Marketing Manager), Randy Poole (Sonoma County Water Agency General Manager), and Jim Andersen (County of Sonoma Assistance County Administrator). June 8, 2005: Large Resource Users BreakfastThe BEA hosted a breakfast for some of the top energy, water, and waste users in Sonoma County in June. The breakfast provided an outlook on the future supply and price prospects for these resources in Sonoma County. Presentations by Supervisor Tim Smith, Randy DeCaminada, Randy Poole, and Jim Andersen highlighted the morning. Rohnert Park Chamber of CommerceOn the afternoon of April 6th, 2005, Paul Harris presented to about 75 members of the Rohnert Park Chamber of Commerce. The presentation focused on programs provided by the Water Agency and PG&E as well as the BEA’s mission and publications. City Councilman Tim Smith was in the audience and seemed interested in setting up a presentation to the Rohnert Park City Council. Sunrise Leads GroupOn April 6th, 2005 staff presented to 12 members of the Sunrise Leads Group at Marie Callender’s in Santa Rosa. In an informal presentation, the BEA materials were distributed and topics such as solar and the hydrogen highway were discussed. Sonoma County Lodging Association Annual ConferenceScott Kirk presented to about 40 Sonoma County Lodging Association members on March 22, 2005. The presentation focused on best practices in the industry ranging from easy, low-to-no cost steps to large infrastructural improvements. Highlights of the event included participation from some of the larger properties as well sincere interest from the smaller, independent properties to learn more. Santa Rosa Kiwanis ClubStaff presented to 30 members of the Santa Rosa Kiwanis Club at the Los Robles Lodge in Santa Rosa on December 16th, 2004. There was interest in the different ways to recycle paper and other products as well as the economics of such efforts. Sunrise RotaryOn December 8, 2004, Warren Smith presented information about the BEA and the first three “How-to” guides to the Sunrise Rotary in Santa Rosa. To an audience of around 60 members, Warren described how environmental practices could be good business, as well as how to get environmental programs started at their businesses. Quite a few people stayed afterward for questions. Petaluma Kiwanis ClubStaff presented to 20 members of the Petaluma Kiwanis Club at Carrow’s in Petaluma on Tuesday, November 16th, 2004. The presentation highlighted BEA’s mission and strategy as well as many of the BEA publications. Cotati Chamber of CommerceOn July 22, 2004, Scott Kirk and Scott Rosenblum presented information about what the BEA does as well as some printed materials, including the Bottom Line newsletter and How-To guides. Food Service Kitchen Efficiency WorkshopThe BEA, partnering with the Sonoma County Water Agency and the Economic Development Board, sponsored a Commercial/Industrial Kitchen Operating Efficiency workshop given by the Food Service Technology Center. The workshop on May 20, 2004, was free to participants and presented low and no-cost approaches to improving the efficiency of commercial kitchens. The program focused on both water and energy efficiency measures. Rebate and incentive program information, as well as tips and giveaways, were distributed to attendees. The event was held at Ramekins Sonoma Valley Culinary School. BEA Collaborations with Petaluma Chamber of CommerceThe BEA and Cisco Systems hosted an after-hours mixer at the Petaluma Chamber of Commerce on May 18, 2004. The event provided chamber members with an informal information session and networking opportunity. The BEA highlighted Cisco's participation in the Petaluma Business Water Project and other environmentally friendly and cost-conscious business practices through printed handouts, a Power Point presentation, and discussions with chamber members. The chamber provided a raffle gift, while Cisco Systems provided refreshments and the meeting location.
