Audit

  1. What is the responsibility of the Sonoma County Auditor-Controller's Audit Division?
    Government Code 26909 gives the Auditor-Controller the power to audit various entities within the County. The Audit Division of the Sonoma County Auditor-Controller's office is responsible for the audit function of the County of Sonoma. State statutes or Federal law mandates many audits. The Audit Division conducts audits of County Departments, County Enterprise Funds, County Service Areas, Special Districts under the Board of Supervisors, Special Districts under Local Boards, and Federal, State and County Grants. The Division also does audits and compliance reviews of Refuse and Cable Franchise Fees, Advertising Funds, Transient Occupancy Tax and Self-Storage operators. The Audit Division investigates fraud or cash shortages found within County Departments and makes recommendations to prevent their recurrence. Per Board Resolution, all audits done by the Division are either revenue producing or mandated by law. The Division is comprised of an Audit Manager and nine Auditor/Accountants.
  2. How do I request an audit?
    Answer: Please contact Greg McGuirk, Audit Manager, for any audit requests or questions regarding potential audits. Audits are usually scheduled a year in advance, so please plan accordingly.

Payroll

  1. How do I get copies of my W-2 if I worked for the County of Sonoma?

    Put your request in writing and send it to:
    Sonoma County Auditor-Payroll
    575 Administration Drive, Room 117A
    Santa Rosa, CA 95403

    Be sure to include your social security number, correct name used at the time the W-2 was originally issued, the year of the W-2 copy you are requesting, and a self-addressed stamped envelope. Also, be sure to sign the request form you send us. A copy of your W-2 will be returned to you usually within 7 business days.

    In a hurry? Send us your signed request and include your phone number. We will call you when it is ready and you can pick it up. Just remember to bring identification.

    Want it faxed? Be sure to put your request to fax the information (and the fax number) in writing on your request. We cannot fax information without your specific written release indicating the fax number you want the information sent to.

  2. How do I verify employment for a current County employee?

    Call (707)565-4688 and provide a social security number and name. We can verbally verify information you already have but cannot provide any new information.

  3. Where do I send a written request for employment verification or get information verified for former employees?

Property Tax

  1. How can I obtain answers to questions about my tax bill?

    The Sonoma County Auditor-Controller and the Treasurer-Tax Collector have made property tax information available on the internet.
