Air Pollution Control

Two air pollution control districts have jurisdiction in Sonoma County, the Northern Sonoma County Air Pollution Control District (NSCAPCD) and the Bay Area Air Quality Management District (BAAQMD). See the map below for boundary areas. The Agricultural Commissioner’s Office has the authority to issue a special burn permit allowing a grower to burn agricultural materials where disease or pests are a problem and must be abated by fire. The Bay Area AQMD does not allow residential burning. The Northern Sonoma APCD processes its own burn permit applications for both residential and agricultural burning.
