are the qualifications?
California Elections Code 12302 requires Student Precinct
Officers to be:
- At least 16 years of age at the time of the election to which
he or she is serving as Precinct Officer.
- A high school senior with a grade point average of at least
2.5 on a 4.0 scale.
- A United States citizen at the time of the election to which
he or she is serving as a Precinct Officer.
- A student in good standing, attending a public or private secondary
educational institution.

How do
I nominate a student?
A Student
Precinct Officer Program Nomination/Application Form is used
to nominate a student. Simply click on the form name above to view
and print the form. The form is in Adobe Acrobat format, if you
do not have Acrobat Reader, you can download it for free by clicking
the icon below.
Once completed the form should be returned to the Sonoma County
Registrar of Voters, Attn.: Lorna King. You may return the form
by mail, fax, or in person.

How do
students benefit from the experience of serving as a Precinct Officer?
- This opportunity will give students "hands on" experience, learning
how local elections are conducted.
- Students will receive training on how to open a polling place,
process voters and close the polls.
- Inspires students to register and to vote when they reach 18
years of age.
- Students gain a lifelong appreciation for the democratic process.
- Students play an active and important role in their community.
- Students will receive a stipend of $75 for serving at the polls.
