When registering to vote, you may affiliate with any qualified political party, you may affiliate with a political party which has not qualified in California, or you may decline to state a political party. If you register without indicating your political party affiliation, you will be considered a non-partisan voter.

In California the qualified political parties are:

• American Independent
• Democratic
• Green
• Libertarian
• Peace and Freedom
• Republican

If you wish to change your political party affiliation you must re-register at least 15 days prior to an election. In the general election voters may vote for any candidate regardless of political party affiliation. See Registering to Vote for information on how to obtain a new registration form.
